New tech, it would seem, is the catalyst that keeps bringing us the future we so constantly think about. The anticipation is not without reason though. After some disappointment with the played out with the Galaxy S4, Samsung wants to respond a little sooner this year with their next flagship.
Tales of a new Galaxy S5 had been doing rounds online, and all speculations pointed to the flagship making its debut at the 2014 Mobile World Congress. And true to that, the next heir to the throne showed up, and it was a marvel of sorts.

The Galaxy S5 doesn't deviate so much from the classic design signature, with the most notable change being the rectangular edges and the leather-like plastic back. It comes with the IP67 credentials, meaning its dust and waterproof.
The display is a 5.1" Full HD SuperAMOLED unit with 432ppi. While it's not the QHD that was expected, it is still very magnificent.
One of the pleasant surprises was with the Home button which now contains a fingerprint scanner. It is a security boost that's activated by swiping your finger over it.
Inside the Galaxy S5 is a Snapdragon 801 chipset, with a 2.5GHz Krait 400 CPU and an Adreno 330 graphics unit. There's 2GB of RAM, which should suffice. Onboard memory is offered in 16/32 GB versions. Measly, yes, but any extra memory needs should be satisfied by the microSD slot which supports 128GB cards.
It launches with Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Perhaps the more interesting bit is the TouchWiz interface. It doesn't have an overhauled design, but the subtle changes in the notification area and settings screen are really pleasant.
The primary camera has a 16MP sensor whose lack of OIS, Samsung asserts, will be offset by its Phase Detection Auto Focus. It is capable of 4K UHD video recording. Under it is the flash, and two sensors for monitoring the heart rate.
